Theology of Mission
Overview:
Theology of mission courses seek to provide a Biblical basis for mission. To be sure that the concepts are grounded in
Scripture. This gives:
Authority and legitimacy to the undertaking. It is part of being a Christian part of the divine mandate. Based on the
plan and purpose of God for humankind.
Defines what mission is really about. There are varying interpreprations of what the Christian mission
is. These need to be answered. The true Biblical interpretation of what mission is arrived at.
Show how God goes about Mission. This can be confusing to some as it seems that the Jews for example
are a favored nation, Jesus confined his ministry largely to Jews. What does this mean and how does it all fit together.
Lessons to be learnt and understanding gained giving insights into how mission is to be conducted.
The course will begin with an understanding of :
Purpose of God in general. The nature of who God is which is where Mission originates. This will come
from an understanding of Creation and then the overall purpose and plan of God as progressively revealed. Gen 1-11
Mission in the OT. The place of Israel and what is to be learnt and understood from God¡¦s dealings and
his ways; Exodus the beginning of the nation of Israel; Canaan the Judges and the Kingdom; the Exile; Intertestamental
period.
The ministry of Jesus in the Gospels; Ministry to Jews; Ministry to Gentiles; Training and commission
of the Disciples; Holy Spirit being sent; Mission in the Acts of the Apostles; Jewish mission; Gentile mission; Ministry
of the Church and Mission; Some general considerations and Special interests
