Gatwick to Basel ( Switzerland)

Easyjet another of these fabled cut price airlines so be careful and ready to pay up for anything beyond in the fine print!! An early morning start rising at 05.00 leaving by 06.00 and then flying at 08.10. No food supplied on these cut price airlines so we stopped off at Garfukels restaurant in the airport, to have a morning breakfast before leaving. In Basel we were met by another old friend from Hong Kong days, Stephen De Garis. Along with him was daughter Nicola who sat in the back seat with Janette full of her latest happening which has been a successful romance brought on by joining a Hiking group which made a bus tour to Venice affording time to get acquainted then conduct an e mail assisted romantic happening. The wedding is in September. Stephen kindly drove us to Interlaken a 1.5 hour event getting us there at 13.30 just in time to pick up a late lunch.

Conference Beatenberg, Interlaken Switzerland

The 50 delegates at the 3rd Triennial meeting of the International Council for Higher Education (IHEC) are from a variety of countries ranging from USA, Europe, Africa, India, Nepal, Singapore and Korea amongst others. Their interest is in improving the quality of theological education relating it more to life and reality in order to improve the quality of spiritual life and witness.

We met up with friends made in Singapore last year as well as widening the circle and sharing and learning. The atmosphere was positive friendly and prayerful. The challenges are immense but the sense of fellowship, awareness of the plan and purpose of God all uniting and encouraging features to return to local situations with.

The group is low on passing resolutions but high on working together on curriculum and ideas which are then executed at the local level in their different teaching and mentoring ministries.

The location of the venue is awesome and majestic. High above the lake surrounded by the Alps. For us it is strongly reminiscent of Mussoorie and the Himalaya. Living standards are radically different but nature provides a tremendous backdrop.

Our contribution is modest but the sense of God at work in a growing group of responsible national leadership is rewarding stimulating and challenging.

The cultural appreciation evening featuring the local men¡¦s yodeling group was a very popular event. Along with a player of the traditional swiss horn and the presentation of samples of famed swiss chocolate and black forest cake at the coffee time.
